Abstract

There is little doubt about the social nature of the pandemic crisis. The term "health and social crisis" has been on the lips of both the lay public and the experts behind evidence-based policy since the beginning of the pandemic. However, there does not seem to have been an evidence-based policy. Rather, on the contrary, the social sciences in general and sociology in particular have remained, for the most part, on the sidelines of decision-making processes to deal with the pandemic crisis caused by the spread of the new coronavirus. The book Sociología en tiempos de pandemia (2021), edited by professors Olga Salido (Complutense University of Madrid) and Matilde Massó (University of A Coruña) and published in the "Colección Investigación Sociológica" of the Spanish Federation of Sociology, could be taken as a clear spur to the marginalisation that the sociological guild has suffered.
